What is Adult Foster Care?

AFC is a MassHealth-funded program that allows adults who need daily assistance to live with caregivers in a safe home environment. Caregivers receive a tax-free stipend twice a month, while every client is supported by a Registered Nurse and Case Manager.

AFC Caregiver Requirements

To be eligible to serve as an Adult Foster Care caregiver in Massachusetts, an individual must meet the following qualifications

  • Live in Massachusetts
  • Be at least 18 years of age
  • Reside in the same private home as the Adult Foster Care member
  • Be capable of providing 24-hour supervision and assistance, either personally or with approved backup support
  • Be physically and mentally able to meet the care needs of the member
