Vitra Gives Back: Day of Caring with United Way of Greater Plymouth County
As part of the Vitra Gives Back initiative, our team joined the United Way Day of Caring in Brockton. Volunteers across the region spent the day lending a hand where it’s needed most, and we were proud to join in shoulder to shoulder.
United Way Day of Caring: Backpacks with School on Wheels Massachusetts
One group of volunteers spent the morning with School on Wheels Massachusetts, packing backpacks with notebooks, pencils, and other supplies. This work during the United Way Day of Caring in Brockton helps students start the year feeling included and prepared.
Our table quickly turned into an assembly line of bright-colored notebooks and sharpened pencils. It was simple work with real impact—kids will walk into class carrying those backpacks, feeling more confident and supported.

United Way Day of Caring in Brockton: Garden Refresh at Old Colony YMCA
Another group headed to the Old Colony YMCA in Brockton. Together with other volunteers, we dug up a new area and prepared it for planting. What was once grass is now freshly mulched and planted with new bushes and flowers—small changes that make the space brighter and more welcoming for families.
By the afternoon, the transformation was clear. It was rewarding to step back, see the finished work, and know that the space will be enjoyed right away by the community as part of the United Way Day of Caring in Brockton.
Building Connections
What stood out most wasn’t the finished projects, but the connections. Working side by side with neighbors, local organizations, and United Way of Greater Plymouth County leadership reminded us how much stronger our communities feel when people come together with a shared purpose. Efforts like the United Way Day of Caring in Brockton show what collaboration can do.
