5 Ways to Protect Your Loved One During Flu Season.
Flu season can be a challenging time, especially for older adults and people with certain health conditions. Taking a few simple precautions can help protect your loved one and reduce the spread of illness at home.
Here are five ways you can help protect someone you care for during flu season.
- Talk with their healthcare provider about the flu vaccine: Ask your loved one’s healthcare provider about the flu vaccine. If they are 65 or older, ask which vaccine is best for them.
- Wash your hands often: Wash your hands with soap and water, especially after being in public, before preparing food, and before helping your loved one. .
- Cover coughs and sneezes: Use a tissue or the inside of your elbow when coughing or sneezing and washing your hands afterward.
- Keep the home clean: Clean frequently touched surfaces like doorknobs and tables. Good airflow can also help reduce the spread of germs.
- Pay attention to symptoms: Look for symptoms such as fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, and tiredness. Contact a healthcare provider if your loved one becomes sick, especially if they are older or have health conditions.
