April Is About Access
Why Minority Health and Medicaid Awareness Matters at Vitra Health

At Vitra Health, we work with families from every background and see firsthand how important access to healthcare really is. That’s why April holds special meaning for us—it marks both National Minority Health Month and Medicaid Awareness Month. These observances reflect the needs and experiences of many of the families we serve across Massachusetts.
Meeting People Where They Are
Many of our clients identify as part of a minority group and are caring for loved ones at home. For these families, MassHealth—Massachusetts’ Medicaid program—makes critical care possible. It helps cover services like Adult Foster Care (AFC) and Group Adult Foster Care (GAFC), allowing caregivers to receive support for the work they already do with love.
Minority Health Month is also a chance to look honestly at health disparities—especially for people of color. It’s about trust, representation, and making care more equitable for everyone. That’s where Medicaid plays a key role: expanding access and closing gaps that affect long-term health and well-being.
What You’ll See from Us This Month
In April, we’ll be highlighting stories and resources to support caregivers, including:
- How MassHealth keeps families connected and cared for
- The value of culturally informed care
- Everyday stories from our clients and caregiver community
Our goal is to make sure families understand what’s available—and how these programs can reduce stress, improve outcomes, and allow people to stay in their homes and communities.

Staying Informed, Staying Connected
We’ll continue sharing updates throughout the month that explore the lasting impact of these programs—especially through the lens of local stories and lived experience. Because awareness is just the beginning.
If you or someone you know is caring for a loved one with MassHealth, you may be eligible for caregiver support through our AFC or GAFC programs. We’re happy to answer questions and guide you through the next steps.
Because at Vitra Health, we care for you in your community.
